Billy's at Ayrburn
Billy's at Ayrburn Domain sits in a restored 1890s homestead. This was one of the first buildings in the region to get electric lighting.
Over a century later, we wired it back up.
The venue is split into two distinct spaces. The homestead itself has been meticulously restored, keeping the original Victorian character intact. There are five dining rooms, each with their own personality.
Next to it is the conservatory, a steel and glass structure that nods to Victorian orangeries.
SA Studio led the architecture and restoration, with interiors by Alexander & Co.
The project received recognition at the Best Awards, with judges noting it as a masterclass in detailing and assembly.
For Strawberry, the technical challenge was making the audio system invisible.
Speakers are painted into ceilings or tucked behind greenery. Music transitions seamlessly from room to room, from inside to outside, without disrupting the heritage aesthetic or the experience.
The control system needed to be intuitive; lighting and sound managed through a tablet interface so staff could adjust zones without fumbling through multiple systems.
Nothing protrudes, nothing draws attention to itself. The tech disappears so the venue can do what it does best.
