Fairway Views
This high-end holiday home within Millbrook resort has been designed to hide its technology seamlessly within the architectural form of the building and landscape. The result is clean, elegant, and of course, simple.
The clients brief was above all else that: ‘My mother needs to be able to use it’.
Strawberry worked closely with the client, architect, lighting designer and main contractor, to commission the audio, visual, motorized window treatments, lighting control and security system.
Sound
Multi-room audio has been installed throughout the Living, Dining, Outdoor Living, Powder room and Gallery areas.
A large open plan Living and Dining area features a discreet yet powerful built-in subwoofer and a customized Triad soundbar made to match the width of the 77” OLED TV above it. When entertaining, the Living Area can be grouped with the high-performance Triad speakers and sub built-in to the bulkhead of the Dining Room.
In the outdoor areas, speakers have been discreetly placed behind laser cut panels of steel assisted by subwoofers buried within the garden bed.
Escape to the Loft and you’ll find a 5.1 surround sound system to relax and watch a great movie or sports match.
Video
A 4K HDBaseT video distribution system was used to deliver high quality picture to two 77” OLED TV’s, as well as a 55” OLED and 43” LED TV in the bedroom.
Due to the layout of the bedroom a motorized articulating bracket was used, allowing the TV to remain flush-mounted into the wall when not in use.
Using a simple hard-button remote control users can select between SKY and multiple Apple TV streamers.
All hardware is centrally racked meaning only the TV and a remote control are needed within each room.
Motorized Window Treatments
This home features over 40 motorized shades and curtain tracks from Lutron.
Using Lutron offers subtle advantages that help set this home apart from others. When stopping shades part way thru raising or lowering the hem-bars remain aligned. This is especially noticeable in a large open plan space like the Living/ Dining area where there are over a dozen shade panels.
Lutron blinds are also very quiet, so you can keep having your conversation around the dining table whilst all of those motors work.
And because Lutron motors are low voltage, every sheer, black-out shade and curtain in the home can be opened or closed at the same time. Handy for the Home and Away modes we implemented based on whether the house is in use.
Control
For simple day to day control, a combination of Dynalite 6 button keypads and LCD keypads are located sparingly though out the home. These operate lighting, shades, heaters, fire places, and open doors.
When more control is required, for example you want to open the single shade over the doorway but leave the rest closed, an iPad app can be used from within the house or anywhere in the world.
The integrated security system provides multiple users each with their own pin code. The system reacts differently based on the pin code that is input. So when the cleaners arrive and enter their unique pin code, the door unlocks, the alarm disarms, and the lighting throughout the house turns on to full brightness.
